  2004 Rules of Hockey
2004 Rules of Hockey The Rules of Hockey have been completely rewritten for the start of 2004. The FIH has attempted to "make the Rules easier to understand for everyone involved in the game so that we can play to common and enjoyable standards."

The FIH recommends that umpires read the 2004 Rules of Hockey "in their entirety." Two important Rules changes are the outlawing of the exchange of equipment (including specialised drag-flick sticks) at short corners (announced in October), and the removal of the automatic awarding of a free hit for balls lifted into the circle.
