The Hockeyroos have lost the first game of a four-test series to New Zealand, going down 1-0 in Dunedin yesterday.

The Kookaburras have won their fifth Azlan Shah Trophy, their third in four years, after defeating home side Malaysia, 3-1 in Ipoh last night.

Excitement machine, Eddie Ockenden, played his best match so far in the Australian strip, winning Player of the Final and scoring twice in the win, blitzing the Malaysian defence with his pace and touch. While Andrew Smith had another strong game, capping off a successful return to the Kookaburras team with the Player of the Tournament award.

Several young Kookaburras get their chance to shine when the Azlan Shah Tournament begins in Ipoh, Malaysia tomorrow.

Hockey Tasmania’s State Under 18 Men’s Team finished 4^th at the National Championships in Brisbane, both after the round robin series and then in the Finals.
