Derwent bundled out Minor Premiers OHA with a gutsy 1-0 victory with Kirby Lovell scoring the most memorable goal of her career.
Lovell provided a pivotal role on the forward line and did remarkably well to eliminate first the approaching goalkeeper and then the defender before slotting the match winner in the 52nd minute. OHA were not without their chances with skilful midfielder cum forward Sofie McLeod the best player on the ground. The Ships amazingly held an 8-2 penalty corner advantage with three minutes to go. It was a matter of quantity rather than quality as OHA had endless attacking opportunities but struggled to truly test Derwent goalkeeper Holly Dillon.
Derwent had a second goal disallowed from a penalty corner with the umpire ruling aDerwent break into the circle and instructed the penalty corner to be replayed. It mattered little as OHA’s Eliza Flanagan struck a reverse stick strike flash wide before OHA played their last hand, withdrawing their goalkeeper for the final minutes. Derwent held firm, scrambling wide OHA’s final penalty corner before milking the clock effectively for a historic victory for Coach Nick Tremayne and his side. Derwent now face reigning premier’s North-West Graduates in next weekend’s Grand Final.
