A hat-trick to Jess Weutschner secured a 5-0 victory for Canterbury over University today. German exchange student Jenny Forder was best afield for the finals bound Canterbury outfit with a dominant display of skill to allow her team mates countless circle penetrations.

Grace Calvert and Blair Patten also found the net in the comfortable victory as Canterbury’s attention now turns to next weekend’s elimination final against Derwent. The loss ended an encouraging season for University under coaches Ollie Close and Chris Heazelwood who have developed a group of talented youngsters.  Avril Bailey, Yasmin Featherstone and Bel Limmer lead the Students’ next generation while Helen Rackham and Sarah Pugsley add valuable experience.

Prince of Wales Wellington may have missed finals action but ended the season in a flurry with a 3-3 draw against Minor Premiers OHA. The Ships lead 2-1 at half-time with Jean Flanagan and Georgia Forbes-Smith, while Prince of Wales Wellington’s most promising striker Kiara Frediani scored her debut senior goal with a touch of class. The Maroons struck back with veteran goal machine Kath Neal equalising in the 43rd minute.  Wales Wellington’s Belinda Page gifted the Maroons the lead before Claire Picone sealed a nail biting draw for OHA as their focus shifts to their first semi-final match next weekend against North West Graduates.

North West Graduates’ premiership defence received a boost with a 2-1 victory over third placed Derwent. Lottie White gave Graduates the perfect start with a field goal in the fourth minute.  The match was delicately placed until the 49th minute when Michelle Cooling doubled the Graduates’ advantage with a powerful strike. Derwent’s Claire Saltmarsh reduced the deficit with a penalty corner goal in the 58th minute but the Strikers could not find an equaliser.

Results:POWW 3 (K Frediani, K Neal, B page) drew with OHA 3 (G Forbes-Smith, J Flanagan, C Picone), CANT 5 (J Weutschner 3, G Calvert, B Patten) def. UNI 0, NWG 2 (L White, M Cooling) def. DER 1 (C Saltmarsh).
