OHA remain top of the table in both the Men’s and Women’s competitions as the women’s side battled to a 2-1 victory over stuttering Canterbury.
Sofie McLeod continued her dominant season with a goal for OHA, while youngster Claire Picone also found the score sheet. Sarah Booker’s second half goal to the Lions kept them in the match until the final siren. Canterbury’s loss leaves them precariously placed just three points in front of Prince of Wales Wellington in fourth position.
The Maroons failed to capitalise on Canterbury’s loss, as Derwent triumphed 2-1 despite numerous penalty corner opportunities. Sally Westbrook scored for Wales Wellington to continue her purple patch in front of goals, but the Maroons could not find a crucial second despite winning the penalty corner count 9-2. Marni Kingston and Susan Kaye scored the winning goals for Derwent as they look to improve on last year’s shock finals appearance with a meaningful premiership assault.
North West Graduates took one step closer to a top two finish with a hard fought 1-0 victory over luckless University. Graduates were minus several key playmakers with Tasmania’s involvement in the National U/21 Women’s Carnival. Suzanne McMullen sealed victory with an unanswered penalty corner strike in the 22nd minute.
Results: NWG 1 (S McMullen) def. UNI 0, DER 2 (M Kingston, S Kaye) def. POWW 1 (S Westbrook), OHA 2 (S McLeod, C Picone) def. CANT 1 (S Brooker)
