Today's play off between Tasmania and Western Australia for 5th and 6th position was a disappointing end to Tasmania's title defence.
WA scored an easy field goal 2 minutes into the game with a ball high into the net. Another field goal was scored soon after and the Tasmanian midfield and defence were struggling under the pressure applied by the fast passing Western Australian style of hockey. Tasmania sagged and WA pressed. Continual turn overs in the midfield saw WA pile on another two goals before half time. In the second half Tasmania changed its structure. The team was able to press forward and gain greater control of the ball. The WA advances into attack were contained by captain Emily Lawson and Blair Patten. The final score remained at 4 nil with WA scoreless in the second half.
Victoria won the tournament 2-1 against Queensland with Michelle Tuhan scoring an amazing goal against the run of play with 10 seconds to play.
Player of the Tournament was shared by Kellie White (NSW) and Anna Flanagan (ACT)
