Hockey Tasmania working hard on Coaching Development

By Alison Monk [5 Feb 2007]

Hockey Tasmania Director of Coaching, Greg Peart, has been coordinating the efforts of several key coaching personnel to disseminate information to assist coaches at all levels of the game.

Greg Peart reports:
"In the Coaching section of this website you will find a range of ideas and skill development strategies that may assist you with your role as coach at whatever level. The enterprising coach should be able to adapt some of the ideas and strategies to suit your team objectives, and level of skill. At least you have some material to which you can react ... and hopefully learn something new.
If you haven't already done so, I invite you to become a member of the Coaching Forum by sending your email address to greg.peart@education.tas.gov.au
Forums held so far have involved Barry Dancer, Mark Hager, David Bell, Colin Batch and AHL coaching personnel, that being held during the AHL Finals week. Other forums will be held on more specific aspects of our game as and when opportunities arise. The Coaching Forum also provides an opportunity for exchange of ideas and sharing of strategies for skill development. Afterall, we are all in this together. And, better still, no cost!!
For those interested in accreditation, I will be detailing information on a proposed Level One course to be held at the THC early August. This will be a ONE DAY program, complemented by assessment of your practical work. But please don't be frightened off by 'assessment' - more a mentoring process to provide advice and guidance on perhaps how you can improve a particular aspect of your coaching on the training track.
IF YOU CONSIDER YOURSELF AN EXPERIENCED COACH then I will be providing a program in which you simply provide me with evidence of your competency in certain areas. No course work or practical assessment - depending upon your level of experience. This is RPL or Recognition of Prior Learning.
I will be also be offering an opportunity for those whose accreditation has lapsed to provide evidence of what you have done to continue your development as a hockey coach and to renew your accreditation.
The course and RPL process will have a minimal cost in order to cover materials etc.
Your ideas on ANY aspect of coaching would be most welcome. If there is a particular topic of interest please let me know".
